First Selectman
My name is William H.Rose IV. On July 27 the Chaplin Republican Town Committee unanimously endorsed my candidacy for First Selectman. I was honored to accept their endorsment. I believe I can be an effective advocate for the needs of Chaplin as it advances through the 21st century and I ask for your support as we move through these challenging times. Our community must balance our rural character with the needs of the town, but I don't believe we need to sacrifice those qualities that attracted Chaplin residents to our region.
I am no stranger to public service having served on Town of Chaplin's Inland/Wetlands Commission so I am aware of the geography of the town and how that impacts our zoning regulations and plans for development. I was then elected in 1997 to serve on Town of Chaplin's Board of Finance and I am currently the vice-chair of that board. I have managed and negotiated our financial obligations while always keeping in mind the finanacial burden we as taxpayers face. To accomplish this, the Board of Finance has worked closely with the Board of Selectmen to comment on and make managment recomendations to keep Chaplin financially healthy and strong. I have also received and reviewed each annual audit in an effort to make responsible decisions for current and future ventures.
Professionally, I owned and operated a heavy equipment business that has had strong ties to the region for over 25 years. W. H. Rose, Inc. employs over 30 people from local communities. Through bidding I have contracted with local municipalities to fulfill their equipment needs and developed business relationships with over 100 communities throughout southern New England
In 2007 I negotiated the sale of this company that was mindful of my obligations to the corporation and the employees that depended on me for their livelihoods. I remain a consultant for this company and am now semi-retired and able to devote my attention and considerable experience to the needs of Chaplin and its residents.
Personally I have lived in Chaplin my entire life and have been married to my wife Lisa for 20 years. We have enjoyed raising three children that have thrived in this rural setting. I cannot imagine calling any other place but Chaplin home.
Chaplin, like the rest of Connecticut , is faced with an uncertain economic outlook and a need to respond to the necessities of the community. As First Selectman, I will also balance those necessities with the desires and wishes of our community. It is in this balance we will find our renewed and revitalized quality of life that makes Chaplin a unique place to live.
Thank you,
William H. Rose IV
I am asking for your support on Nov. 3rd
Vote for the dedication and experience we need.
Second Selectman
My name is John Smith, and I
am running for a seat on the Board of Selectmanin Chaplin. 10 years ago my wife and I moved to Chaplin, in an effort to find a lifestyle similar to that which we both had growing up in Bolton, CT. We appreciate the ease of small town life, and the advantages of small town politics.
For the last 12 years I have worked in sales and management in the commercial trucking industry with both Freightliner and International Trucks.
In Chaplin, I have been involved in the organization of several community functions, and have been an active member of the Recreation Commission. I have also worked with many of our townspeople and school officials in an effort to assure the future of our children’s education.
Having a voice in the community is very important to me. Having a say in our children’s future, our community’s future and our town’s future is crucial. I believe in Chaplin and its potential to make the adjustments needed for long term health and stable growth. I also believe that each resident and each town committee member can play a role in assuring that this town remains a proud and respected member of the Quiet Corner, and that we continue to be looked at by families young and old as the same great place to live as when I moved in 10 years ago.
My running for Selectman is a direct result of wanting more for our town, more for our families and especially more from our leaders.
Thank you,
John A. Smith
